Nine-year-old Martha Payne lives in Lochgilphead (lahk•GILP•hed), a small town in western Scotland. Scotland is part of the country of Britain. Martha lives with her parents, her brother and sister, and her dog named Jura. She wants to be a journalist, or news reporter, when she grows up.

To practice being a journalist, Martha started a blog called NeverSeconds. A blog is a website where you can post, or share, pictures and write about things that interest you. Martha decided that she would write about her school lunches, or dinners as they are called in Scotland. She started posting pictures of what she ate at school each day. She wrote about whether she liked the meals or not. She also rated how healthy she thought the food was.

Many people started reading her blog, and soon it went viral. Viral means that a lot of people liked her blog and shared it with others. Suddenly thousands of people were reading it. Many schoolchildren from around the world now follow her famous blog.

Martha decided that she would use her fame to help other people. She created a webpage to raise money for a group called Mary’s Meals. Mary’s Meals is a charity that gives school meals to children who live in poverty. Martha soon raised enough money to feed 10,000 children in the African country of Malawi (mah•LAH•wee) for a whole year!
