Kelly Slater rode huge waves in a surfing competition in Tahiti.
On November 6, 2011, Kelly Slater won the World Title in surfing for the eleventh time. He has won the title more times than any other surfer has. This year, Kelly came in first place in surfing competitions in Australia, California, and Tahiti. He won the World Title by scoring more points than any other surfer.
When Kelly was a kid in Cocoa Beach, Florida, he liked to fish and do tricks on his skateboard. He later taught himself the same tricks on his surfboard. This made his surfing style different from other surfers. Kelly also learned a lot by watching the best surfers in town. He worked hard and won his first surfing competition when he was only 8 years old. At age 20, he became the youngest person to win the World Title in surfing.
This year, Kelly started working with a group called Team Daphne’s. The group was created to inspire people to eat well and stay active. Kelly chose five boys and five girls to be part of a surf team for Team Daphne’s. He is helping them become better surfers. Kelly is happy he gets to share what he knows about surfing and living a healthy life. The boys and girls on the surf team are excited to learn from one of the world’s greatest surfers.
