When Barron Trump moved into the White House in June 2017, he became the first boy to live there in more than 50 years. His father, President Donald Trump, moved into the Washington, D.C., residence on the day of his inauguration in January 2017. Meanwhile, Barron returned home to New York City with his mother, First Lady Melania Trump, so he could finish out the school year there. Barron is now in sixth grade at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, in Potomac, Maryland, near Washington, D.C.
The last boy to live in the White House was John F. Kennedy, Jr. He lived there from 1961 to 1963, while his father, President John F. Kennedy, was in office. Since that time, there have been a number of first daughters in the White House. The most recent were Malia and Sasha Obama, the daughters of former President Barack Obama.
The media attention can be overwhelming for first kids like Barron. But there are lots of good things about living in the White House. The historic home has a bowling alley, swimming pool, basketball court, and movie theater for Barron to enjoy. The first family has a private area on the home’s second and third floors where Barron has his own room. The White House also has a full kitchen staff that cooks all of the family’s favorite meals.
Children of the President often attend special events with their parents. Usually the White House kids take part in the holiday activities, such as the Easter Egg Roll, National Christmas Tree Lighting, and the annual Turkey Pardon. The Turkey Pardon takes place around Thanksgiving. In August, Barron joined his parents on the White House’s Truman Balcony to watch the solar eclipse. Back in April before he moved to the White House, Barron took part in the Easter Egg Roll and made cards for people in the military.
Some of Barron’s favorite activities include golfing with his father and playing on the D.C. United soccer squad. He likes to use Lego bricks and Magna tiles to build miniature cities and airports. His favorite subjects in school are math and science. In addition to English, Barron can speak French and Slovene, the language of Slovenia, where his mother was born. Barron says he’d like to be a golfer, a businessperson, and a pilot when he grows up.
