Jake played his ukulele live on television.

Jake Shimabukuro (shee•mah•boo•koo•roh) is famous for playing the ukulele, a traditional Hawaiian instrument. His music has helped make the ukulele very popular. Jake is happy that so many people enjoy his favorite instrument. He even teaches people how to play the ukulele through an iPad music class.

Jake is a Japanese American who has lived in Hawaii all his life. He began playing the ukulele when he was four years old. At first, Jake played only Hawaiian music. Now he plays many kinds of music, such as rock, jazz, and classical.

Jake uses his music to inspire people to live healthy, happy lives. He does this by playing the ukulele and speaking at schools, hospitals, and senior centers across Hawaii. Jake has also played concerts to raise money for Japan. The money went to people affected by the earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.
