Mayor Jeremy Minnier
Jeremy Minnier appeared on the local television news after he was elected.

Can you imagine being put in charge of your town when you are still in school? That’s what happened to high school student Jeremy Minnier. He did not run for mayor. People of Aredale, Iowa, wrote in his name on the ballot, or voting card. He got three times as many votes as the man who was running! Jeremy became mayor of Aredale this year, and he is only 18 years old. He is one of the youngest mayors in American history.

Jeremy is very proud of his town. He does a lot for his community. He takes part in his church’s youth group and is president of the local Future Farmers of America. Jeremy takes care of sheep and cattle on his family’s farm. He writes for the school newspaper and plays the saxophone in the school band. The principal hopes that Jeremy will inspire other kids to achieve their goals.

Only 74 people live in Aredale, but Mayor Jeremy Minnier still has a lot of work to do. He is working to solve the town’s water and sewer problems. He also wants to make the town look nicer so more people will want to visit. But being the mayor doesn’t mean Jeremy can just tell other people what to do. He says that when the town’s streets need cleaning, he will be out there helping just like everyone else.
